Kodak Ektar 100
I’m trying new things in 2025. For years I shot color film. Most of the film stocks I grew up on are gone. Ektar was around in the late 80’s and early 90’s and then reappeared in 2008. I had never shot it. Now I have and i’m glad I did. If you follow my work, you know that I have been shooting black and white primarily for the last several years. Kodak TriX is my go to film stock for that work. I tried HP5 and TMax but quickly returned to TriX. With that settled I need to find a color film stock to add to my bag. I like to be consistent with my images and want to stick with a film stock that represents me.
Rich reds, deep blues, the colors pop. If I had seen them online, I might have thought they were taken with a digital camera. No noticeable grain. This film produced some beautiful results. I could see using this for event photography, car shows, colorful city neighborhoods, anything with bright colors would present well with this film. Color sometimes presents a distraction for me. I love black and white and the shades of gray. Sometimes color tells the better story. It presents the feel of an area or subject. Moods are easier to set with color and these images seem almost fun, being so vibrant. It is definitely a film stock that I will use again in the future.
Until next time,
John
