Kodak Portra 400

In my quest to find the best color film stock for me I have been testing different possibilities. In my last post I talk about how I have been shooting black and white almost exclusively for many years. Well it is time to return to color. Before I start shooting regularly I wanted to try out some different color film stocks to seek what works best for me. I have an idea of how I want the images to look and feel. Different films handle color differently. My ultimate goal is to use one or two different film stocks that represent what my minds eye. sees. Below are some samples from my most recent roll. All images made with a Leica M6 and a Voigtlander 50mm Lens.

While not as punchy as the Ektar 100, the colors are nice. They almost feel a little soft, which I like. It looks more true to what I saw while looking through the viewfinder. Browns and grays have nice contrast and the grain is unnoticeable. I have to admit if I had come across these online I would have assumed that they were digital. It is fun to shoot color again, seeing the world as it is. These images have very little editing. I may have adjusted brightness and cropped a few of these. I have made no color adjustments to any of these images. This film is definitely a frontrunner and will most likely end up in my bag going forward.

Until Next Time,

John
